River's Edge Academy Our Vision: River's Edge Academy educates students to become environmentally responsible, socially conscious, and scholastically prepared for college and active community life. Our School: * is a free, public, charter high school * provides a small, personalized environment (max. 300 students) * offers grades 9-10 in 2008 (expanding 1 grade each in 2009 and 2010) * located close to the Mississippi River in St. Paul, MN; site yet to be determined * is Dept. of Education approved and meets MN state standards Our Students: * connect to the community * become global citizens * demonstrate critical thinking skills * become stewards for the Mississippi River system * are representative of the area's diversity Our Approach to Learning: * is active, hands-on learning * is relevant, inquiry-based projects * relies on discovery and challenge * is interdisciplinary * is collaborative * promotes character development * includes reading and writing embedded in all classes |
